I passed through forests
that were burning
and I marked the cries
and silences of the dying–
I wandered friendless
through dark streets
and carried an empty cup–
Many rivers I swam
and then climbed down
steep cliffs to arrive
at beaches abandoned
even by the wind
where no birds flew
and nothing sang
but water
breaking itself
on stones–
Finally I found
the entrance
to the orchard–
I fell down
and drank
the pure water
that rippled
through
the willow trees –
Blackbirds wander
the grass
that waltzes
inside
its own
dark green –
The blonde
angel
of the apples
brushes my hair
when I sleep –
My question is
how did the blue
arrow you fired
so long ago
find my heart?
After I was wounded
the moon refuses
to leave the sky –
All day the sun
keeps company with her
And the stars refuse
to hide –
Must be
that I
am to be
for you.
In this place
outside
of time
and space –
I heard the feathers
slicing the air
through a year of rain
and a year
of thunder
and never
found
a place
to hide –
Just as the wind
is married to the water
and kisses
the waves
as they fall -
If I have this desire
honor compels
me to mount
the white
horse
of the dawn
and to climb
the ladders
of light
inside the wind
until we gather as one
someplace out in the black distances
where every
star
is born…
